This week I have a skull for you to identify – to make a change from the more tricky specimens I’ve had recently. Any idea what this belonged to?
As usual you can leave your comments, questions and suggestions below and I’ll do my best to respond. Enjoy!
Closest I can find is P. m. b. ?
Good call on the genus, but I think it may be a different species.
Looks like a python skull. If its an adult it will probably be a royal or carpet python as opposed to a Burmese or reticulated python as they are usually about 15- 20 CMS long. Could also be one if the boas which are anatomically similar. Colubrids and other snakes such as vipers are totally different in dentition and skull shape.
I’m going with python too, as there is another row of teeth. Can’t get it down to species level, though.
Good skills Nicola! I think it’s one of the species you mention.
I think it’s P., but I’m not able to say any more than that, so I’m just going to agree with Jake’s P. m. b. : )
It seems like a Phyton skull
