Bird skulls sometimes break like this but it must be a big bird. I have a swan skull which broke like this:

But the ear bones look like they are on the outside like a mammal, and the groove on the outside is strange.
Well spotted as usual – it is a mammal and the groove is a bit strange…

Bit big for a Meercat, or indeed a mere cat
It has a very narrow bridge between the eyes, suggesting possible binocular vision, but not a primate. A seal, maybe?

Oh yes! I didn’t look properly! It was just a wild stab in the dark really!!
Now I have read the clues I can see what it is, but it different from my skull of the same type. The groove isn’t as big and the ridges at the back aren’t as big.
