I don’t give you birds very often (GrrlScientist has that area well covered) and I’m mostly working with mammals at the moment, but following up on last week’s Gentoo Penguin I thought I might give you another bird from the Horniman’s collections. This is one that I’ve had to identify from the infamous box 83.1 and it was picked by my trusty minion Cat and our work experience student Tilly (thanks guys!). Here it is:
As usual, you can put your questions, observations and suggestions below and I’ll do my best to answer. Good luck!
CORRECT!
Got any choc ices? etc.
🙂
But which species?
Can’t do that!
It’s quite like a Frigatebird or a Black-browed Albatross.
It is indeed! One of those is very close, but not quite there…
Atlantic Yellow-nosed Albatross ? It is too small to be an adult wandering albatross.
It looks an awful lot like an albatross skull to me.
Ah, but what kind?
A Wandering Albatross, thinking that because the groove from the nostril and the overall shape of the bill is smoother than the Black-browed Albatross.
I like your reasoning – the bill shape confuses me somewhat, but not a Wandering Albatross.
Ach too late today! In any case I wasn’t sure how to render the song in de dums ….
Can’t beat a bit of Fleetwood Mac!
Black-browed albatross.
Wandering Albatross?
Bit small…
Dyou get wafers with it?
‘Course you don’t get ******* wafers with it!
Black-footed albatross?
