This week I have a mystery object for you that I expect you will find simultaneously easy and difficult:
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, I expect you’ll be able to work out what this bone is quite easily – however, you may struggle a bit more to work out which species it came from.
Cryptic answers are encouraged as always – but mainly have some fun with this one!
Such a challenge may give you a hard one! and make you barking mad
Seriously? Is it that long?!
Walrus has one about 2 1/2 ft long. There is a story about some museum head that made a chair out of them and told people after they sat in it.
I just didn’t know Walruses barked. I guess arctos is the word, from the other comments.
Bac to the bear-minimum I would guess?
🙂
Any thoughts on species?
Maritime?
Looks like Adam lost something – but who found it? My guess is something furry, fishy, and barky all at once!
Something that didn’t make it into that Kip Addotta song I figure. With more information I bet we might be able to pinn it down. But I’ll have to get bac to you.
I suppose it was just a matter of time before one of these showed up on Zygoma. I’m tempted to say “How immature”. Perusing this article might help seal the argument: http://what-when-how.com/marine-mammals/baculum-marine-mammals/
Attached at one end, free on the other.
Oh, Brother!
PS My computer won’t let me zoom in on the ruler so someone want to let me know how long this thing is?
Try it now – I forgot to link the full sized image!
Thanks, Paolo, that worked.
