They’re narrow-mouthed frogs – I think this chap definitely qualifies as a wide-mouthed frog!
Right, I’m thinking of something pithicus maybe. One of those photogenic frogs, greenish, big, South American I think, might protect its eggs, maybe even young. Gastropithicus. Try this one.
Wouldn’t Gastropithicus be ‘stomach monkey’? I like it!
It’s because they swallow their eggs and brood them.
No, forget that. How about Ceratophrys, it exists and looks something like this.
This is just a guess, but what about C….o. ? Common name starts with A, so perhaps that’s the reason for the yes and no comment earlier?
Having investigated the internet I can see the resemblance with the C…. skulls, but to be honest I’d never have gotten much closer than ‘frog’ without the other comments. Can anyone give me some tips about how they narrowed it down?

@Crispin how to narrow it down: most frog skulls are a lot more fragile. That confused me at the beginning, first I thought of a totally different animal group because of that. When I knew it was a frog, I knew where to look for: the eye sockets gave it away for me.
