Friday mystery object #167

Late nights and early starts do not make for blogging joy…

Any idea what this week’s mystery object might be?

I’ll be at a meeting in lovely Liverpool today, but I’ll do my best to respond to any comments. Good luck!

My first thought was in line with palaeosam, but should we be taking clues from those baleeny bristles and blob on the left in the background that looks like a auditory bulla of a “gert big fish”, as one specimen is (inappropriately) described in the Grant Museum’s archive?
