Today I’m giving you an Anthropological mystery object to make up for the recent dominance of skulls. So, any idea what this is, where it’s from and what it’s made of?
As usual, you can put your thoughts below and I’ll do my best to respond. Good luck!
Human hair ?
Nope!
Horse hair?
Not horse hair
could the dark ‘hairy’ bits, be avian?
Oooh, now we’re getting somewhere!
Paradise bird feathers maybe?
They tend to be a bit more colourful
Is it a headdress of some sort? It looks like the band would fit on the head, with the “hair” hanging down around the face.
Very good – headdress is right!
Is it some sort of merkin?
A merkin that long would be a trip hazard!
From the Amazon?
Is it a feather head-dress made from Cassowary feathers?
So from New Guinea.
Although it could of course be from Australia too. But I’ll say New Guinea as I think the Northern Cass is more frequently used for this purpose…
