Friday mystery object #51 Happy Friday everyone! This week’s mystery object is a nice simple one. What is this: As usual, questions, suggestions and comments below and I will do my best to answer. Good luck! Share this:PrintEmailTwitterFacebookRedditLinkedInPinterestLike this:Like Loading... Related
Some kind of goose or duck, but a strange one with a big brain case. What size is it ?
It’s 10cm long, but it’s not a goose or duck!
Is it a flightless bird?
It is flightless…
is it from New Zealand?
Not New Zealand, but you’re in the right Hemisphere
pick up – a – pick up – a Penguin???
This is no fish eater!
Kagu is from the southern hemisphere, doesn’t fly and is the right size. But I can’t find a picture of the skull to check.
I like your thinking! However, it’s not a Kagu.
I’m not convinced it’s a bird. The boney protrusion on the right doesn’t look elike a beak to me.
And now I’ve googled zinjanthropus’ answer – that’s clearly what it is.
Sorry, I’m missing something here… what’s the answer?
That would be telling! The answer is posted on Monday and I remove any correct answers in the comments section so that people can have fun trying to work it out for themselves as the day goes on.
Aha I see. Crafty 🙂
southern hemisphere but not New Zealand, flightless, probably not a bird at all in fact … is it a CORRECT GROUP of some ilk?
Absolutely, but since there aren’t many of them, I’m blanking your question!
Oh well, I shall rest on my laurels having given a pointer to the answer … which is motherspeak for I haven’t a clue!
Oh damn I saw the answer!
They are cute little blighters 🙂
I got to see some of them and many other creatures when I holidayed in that region of the world earlier this year!
Alas I’ve only seen dead examples, but they do appear to be made of awesome.
If it’s what I think it is they do eat fish, shellfish certainly
Then it’s not what you think it is!
so not a duck-billed platypus then
Sorry. Now I know what it is. And discovered along the way that one of the mascots at the Sydney Olympics bears a remarkable resemblance to the mascot you drew for my branch newsletter when you were nine.
Is it one of the Minogue sisters?
Not unless one of them has died and been rendered down to bone…
That’s funny, we were just talking about these yesterday. One of my students described them as “cuddly” which seems ill advised.
Not sure on which species but I am going to go with CORRECTNESS
Ill advised indeed! Well identified.
I think I’ve cracked it. Some kind of CORRECT. From the photos, they don’t look cuddly… cute, maybe
Is it an anteater?
Of a kind 🙂
OMG YAY! it’s a CORRECT ANSWER!
CORRECT ANSWER I believe.
Spot-on, as usual…
I’m going to guess its a Kiwi. If that’s right this is the first one I’ve gotten! horray!
Sorry to say, kiwi is not the right answer…
Well, I got as far as ‘it’s a skull’. I guess I’ll never be a zoologist.
I can spot Anderson’s (& Fisher’s) iris data at 90 paces, though.
