This week I have something a little fishy from the Dead Zoo for you to have a go at identifying:
Any thoughts as to which species this might be? As always, you can leave your questions, observations and suggestions in the comments box below – I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Gulp! if it is the genus I think it is, then there are a lot of species to choose from. If it is local to you I guess it might be the grainy one?
Well spotted on the genus, but check the distribution of the grainy one more closely…
Ah, I see. Is it leafy rather than grainy?
Bingo!
What a squalid fish! I don’t know if I should gulp or hold a lantern up to examine it more closely!
I absolutely agree that this is a squalid little fish. For what it is worth, I don’t think this specimen is very illuminating. The long low dorsal fins, far posterior placement of the second dorsal, shape of the caudal fin and ridge under the eye all lead me to hold the centre for us.
You should definitely gulp…
What I want to know is
how do you like your blue-eyed boy
Mister Death?
It’s not E. E. Cummings, if that’s what you’re suggesting 😉
