Mary is still in a critical condition, but the dedication of the nurses and doctors and the marvels of modern evidence based medicine have saved her life on at least two occasions in the last week. For now she is stable and responding to treatment – so all we can do hope that she continues to improve. When I say we, I mean everyone who knows Mary (many of whom have offered their kind support to the family over the last week) and many who don’t know her, but who do know her remarkable daughter (who I am honoured to have as my wife). People are kinder and more supportive than they are given credit for by our cynical society. Thanks to you all.
One day I hope Mary is able to read this and appreciate how much concern has been shown by friends, acquaintances and strangers alike.
